The client will self-report if they need access to translation services. This data element is used to understand how many clients need access to translation services, and if so, which languages are most often cited as needing translation.
Data Element Type
C4 Translation Assistance Needed is a Program Specific Data Element for:
- HUD: CoC – Collection required for all components
- HUD: ESG – Collection required for all components
- HUD: ESG RUSH – Collection required for all components except Emergency Shelter and Street Outreach
- HUD: Unsheltered Special NOFO – Collection required for all components
- HUD: Rural Special NOFO – Collection required for all components
- HUD: HOPWA – Collection required for all components
Collection Point
Project start for all clients.
Why It Matters
While the client may be receiving the assistance they need at the current provider, should they need assistance from other parts of the homeless response system, knowing the client’s preferred language and translation assistance needed can benefit them as they access other parts of the system.
This element allows CoCs to select a reasonable number of languages for HMIS end users to choose from when asking these questions of people experiencing homelessness.
